Building and Grounds
St. Ann’s is very much a “self-service” church–in that members volunteer to help with as much as possible. And this is never more true, than with our Buildings and Grounds committee. In the year ahead we have need need for some clean up and painting both on the inside and the outside of the church. If there are those that would want to assist with such handyperson tasks (we do not discriminate) please let either Duane Lahti or Bill Clow know, and they will gladly enlist your talents.
Reporting on 2011
The Building and Grounds Committee is happy to report that for 2011 there were no major incidents requiring extensive repair or maintenance. Minor repairs included a frozen gas pipe that needed to be thawed and replaced, some shingle repair, repairing some toilets and other items that needed some attention. Due to a kind donation scaffolding was able to be erected and all the light bulbs in the sanctuary were replaced. Other routine maintenance that was completed included the seal-coating and repainting of the driveway and parking lot, inspection of the fire extinguishers and the fire suppression system, check of the furnaces and hot water heaters.
As part of the building and grounds there was coordination for spring work day and support for the ministry garden at St. Ann’s. The B&G committee wants to especially recognize both Howard McCarthy and Bruce Armstrong for their commitment and dedication to the grounds and garden to ensure that all was maintained on a regular basis. Also due to the generous offer from Jack Porter to engage individuals to help maintain the water gardens St. Ann’s now has gardens that exhibit native plants and flowers of the area and also are able to help retain water, filter it and prevent run off directly to the storm sewer system. Recognizing that water is often taken for granted, the Building and Grounds team feels that this is a very valuable stewardship to our church, the community and our future generations as well.
Also the building and grounds wants to acknowledge the installation of the keyless entry at the back door of the church–we thank Congregation Tikkun Olam for this generous gift. It will provide a better method for security and tracking keys that distributed to many different individuals.
